The Eskimos have long been considered the flagship franchise of the Canadian Football League, and Rhodes has been the captain of that ship since taking over in December 2011. With the team in bit of downturn, Rhodes relied on his past experience as a “turnaround” man in the business world. His work and have certainly done wonders for the Eskimos as the club is coming off a 2014 season that produced a profit of $3.5 million. Progress continues to be a major message for Rhodes as he details the team’s current “five-year plan” that will take the Eskimos into the 2019 season.
One of Rhodes’ major tasks in his “turnaround” program when he joined the Eskimos was restoring a favorable game-day experience for the fans. To push that agenda, Rhodes orchestrated a partnership with the Disney Institute and the results are evident. Improvements to legendary Commonwealth Stadium were also part of Rhodes’ to-do list and he directed the installation of more comfortable seating, pre- and post-game fan fests, and an overall modernization to the game-day experience.
Prior to joining the Eskimos, Rhodes was an executive with several major business brands including Reebok-CCM Hockey, Molson Coors Brewing, and Heinz. The native of Quebec makes community service a large part of his duty and he has served with the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and Northlands Arena Strategy Committee, plus he is an active advocate for WIN House and the Edmonton Human Society.
