The Mark’s 10 Social Media Resolutions for 2015

By January 19, 2015Uncategorized

1. Clean out your Facebook Friends List
Everyone has heard the old joke, the more Facebook friends you have, the less real friends you have. Use the New Year as an excuse to trim down your friends list. Cut those out that fill your feed with posts you’re not interested in, and limit yourself to adding people that you are legitimately interested in listening to.

2. Try a new Network
You, like many, are likely involved in some capacity on the major social media platforms. A Facebook page, a Twitter account, Instagram albums, and YouTube subscriptions. In 2015, take a moment to broaden your horizons, and look into branching out onto a new social media platform. If you’re not already on the Big Four, get on the Big Four, otherwise, take a look at other major platforms, like Pinterest, or LinkedIn.

3. Delete Snapchat, get on Cyber Dust

As you may or may not have heard, Snapchat has seen its share of controversy in 2014. If you’re currently using Snapchat, or even if you have not started, take a look at Mark Cuban’s Cyber Dust. Touting that it doesn’t save any of your sent information to the cloud, and that it keeps a tight lock on your personal information, it certainly is a worthwhile replacement, going into 2015.

4. Go on a Hashtag Diet
While use of hashtags are essential for maximizing exposure to your social media posts, overuse can clutter the purpose and turn people off of your content. Keep a cap on the amount you’re using per post, and be careful in which you’re selecting. Of course, this isn’t always the easiest task, so don’t be afraid to get some help by asking The Mark Consulting.

5. Stop Ranting
When you’re frustrated, it is easy to take to the Internet to vent your frustrations. Instead, focus on giving off positive energy. By putting out negative statements, you’re polluting the pond you swim in, decreasing the value of your social media presence. Inversely, positive energy brings people in, and generally is content that people want to read.

6. Take a Break
Every once and a while, unplug, and step away from your online presence. Like everything you do, maintaining your online presence drains your energy. Sometimes you’re going to just need to take a break from it all, and let yourself recharge. Be it an evening or a weekend.

7. Use more Visuals
Never underestimate the impact of visuals on securing views for your online content. The use of graphics increases exposure to your content by up to two times. More music videos are being produced than ever, and they’re amongst the highest viewed videos on Youtube.

8. Engage your Users
Part of maintaining a healthy online presence is keeping a high level of user engagement. Responding to comments and tweets is a great way to make your followers feel like they’re part of something. Don’t forget about initiating some interactions yourself however, both are equal halves of proper engagement.

9. Post Content Consistently
It’s easy to get into the trap of thinking that you have to post content all day every day. The truth of the matter is that level of saturation is unnecessary. The important part is to keep a fairly regular schedule, and post content on a consistent basis. If you only want to post one article each week, try to do it on the same day, if you want to use twitter regularly, try to make at least one tweet each day. Consistency is the key.

10. No more Direct Cross Posting
You might find it tempting to post carbon copies of your content across different social media platforms, but did you know that doing so could be potentially damaging your online presence? The culture surrounding Facebook posts is different than Twitter’s. The same is true for any two social media platforms. Optimizing your content for the users of each platform is an important part of growing your online presence. While this is a task that may seem daunting alone, it is one of many services that The Mark Consulting provides.
