It’s a myth that only highly intelligent people are creative

By August 27, 2021Blogposts

In fact, research shows that once you get beyond an I.Q. of about 120, which is just a little above average, intelligence and creativity are not at all related.

That means that even if you’re no smarter than most people, you still have the potential to wield amazing creative.

It’s all about finding new ways of solving problems and approaching situations. This isn’t a skill restricted to artists, musicians or writers; it is a useful skill for people from all walks of life.

One common stumbling block to developing creativity is the sense that curiosity is an indulgence. Reward yourself when you are curious about something. Give yourself the opportunity to explore new topics.

So we know that creativity is an ability that allows people to develop new ideas, but that still feels a bit vague and intangible (kind of like saying swimming is the ability to not drown in water—technically true, but not particularly useful if you’re going for a deeper understanding, or ya know, wanting to not drown). Put on your floaties and let’s dive into the deep end.

Things you should remember:

  • 72% OF PEOPLE HAVE CREATIVE INSIGHTS IN THE SHOWER

It’s not just a cliche: Standing naked beneath a stream of hot water and letting your mind wander is good for your creativity.

  • THE INTROVERTS ARE ONTO SOMETHING: SOLITUDE IS WHERE CREATIVITY THRIVES

As productive as we can be in groups, there’s nothing quite like working–and thinking–alone. As it turns out, the more creative, imaginative networks of the brain simply work better when we’re alone.

  • DAYDREAMING IS SURPRISINGLY GOOD FOR YOUR BRAINYou wouldn’t want to drift too far into your mental happy place during an important budget meeting, but the act of daydreaming can have unexpectedly positive benefits for your creativity.

You won’t be able to develop your creative talents if you don’t make time for them. Schedule some time each week to concentrate on some type of creative project. Trust me on this one it’s a game changer. Have a fantastic weekend And yes, I made the video in this post.
