The fact about social media marketing is that every marketer wants all the good things that come with it including followers, shares, retweets, virality and engagement. To achieve all the above, you have to post good content. Any kind of content that doesn’t support any of the above isn’t worth posting. So then the question arises, ‘What type of content should I post on social media platforms?’

Content that evokes strong positive emotion

Your content will never be shared if it doesn’t spark any emotion. It’s however important to note that there are various types of emotion and not all of them encourage people to share your content. Emotions like awe, joy, amusement and laughter tend to spark sharing of content. Regardless of which industry you are in, content that evokes strong positive emotion will get you more followers and shares.

Interactive content

Interactive content is any content that utilizes words, images, videos, games, animation, audio etc to respond to the actions of product and service users. The days of static read and process it social media are long gone and what remains is interactive content. The Mark Consulting also notes that when it comes to content marketing trends, content is becoming more and more interactive. The Mark Consulting goes further to highlight that quizzes are some of the most viral forms of interactive content that never disappoint.

Infographics

A report released in 2015 by Slideshare cited that the most shared content on social media is infographics. They apparently have more virality as compared to documents and presentations, and this remains true up to date. This is attributed to the fact that humans process visual data faster and more effectively than words. And when words are paired with pictures, we understand the content better.

Image-rich content

It is no surprise that content with images is exceptionally shareable. This holds for all social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, Google+ etc. The human brain loves and easily understands content that is paired with images. People therefore engage with such content and at the end of the day share it.

Newsworthy content

News content tends to get a lot of attention as compared to other types of content. However, breaking the news as it happens to your followers is hard. There are two types of business that can offer this and such include big news organizations that have journalists in different geographical locations as well as niche sites that focus on narrow slice of news. It is not advisable to post newsworthy content if you don’t fall under any of the above categories. It’s worth noting that news articles are only sharable in the technology, entertainment and news verticals.
